Ball Control Techniques and Moves - Dribbling Combined with a Move
AgeU6 - U13, U14 - U19
Training SetProgression, Main point
Number of Players1 - 5 players
Setup
Two groups face each other at two cone markers. The cones are approx. 25 m apart. Each group has one ball.
Procedure
The two starting players from each group dribble simultaneously toward each other. Approx. 3-4 m apart, they execute a move to beat the opponent and then pass (or hand off) the ball to the player waiting at the opposite cone. This sequence repeats permanently with different moves. Possible moves can be taken from the move collection below:nna.) Stepover nb.) Pirouettenc.) Shot fakend.) Inside/outside of the footne.) chop*nf.) Caress the ball with the sole / inside of the footng.) Pull the ball behind and aroundnh.) Instep + outside of the footni.) Okocha tricknn* When the coach specifies a chop (abrupt direction change to the opposite direction), the ball is not passed to the player at the opposite cone, but to the player waiting at the player's own starting cone.
Tip
- Both active players must start at the same time. - The correct timing for the move must be applied (not too early and not too late). The correct distance to the opponent in this drill is approximately 3-4 m (since both players move toward each other at high speed. If the dribbling player runs at a stationary opponent, the distance shortens to approx. 2 m). - The moves must be executed by both players with the same foot, otherwise a collision occurs. This requires the players to briefly coordinate at the start of their run. - The move must be executed cleanly and at the highest possible tempo. After beating the opponent, a short sprint of 2-3 metres follows directly. - The subsequent pass to the next player is played flat and firm. - The player expecting the pass makes a short counter-movement simultaneously with the passer's backswing and receives the pass while moving forward (1 touch). - Make sure starts are always from the cone, otherwise the distances won't allow a smooth flow. - It is important that when executing the move, a feint with the upper body also occurs, as the defender typically reacts to this. - The pass must be played into the running path of the waiting starter. - 2 cones
