Ball Control Techniques and Moves - Speed Dribbling

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players

Setup

Two groups line up at two opposing cones. Each group has one ball.

Procedure

The first player of each group has a ball. Both players simultaneously start the speed dribble to the other side. The player expecting the ball comes toward the dribbling player 1-2 metres and receives the ball while moving forward.

Tip

- Demand maximum speed. - Close ball control. - The two active players must watch each other's running path to avoid collisions. - The ball is controlled with the instep/outside of the foot and not with the inside of the foot. - To apply the necessary ball control technique, the ankle must be extended. The toes point downward. - The two players waiting for the ball start without the ball just before the dribbling player arrives at the cone. This ensures the ball is received on the move. This trains both ball reception and control in movement and ensures a high drill tempo. - When the player receives the ball in movement with the inside of the foot, the foot movement goes from top to bottom. The upper body is slightly bent over the ball. When receiving with the outside of the foot, the upper body is slightly turned inward. The foot is also (slightly) turned inward. The ankle is extended. - 2 cones
