Ball Control - The First Touch

  • Age U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

• 4 passing goals (8 poles)

• player should position themselves behind the passing goals (with four different colors of bibs)

• 8 cones, 4 of them should mark a square in the center of the bigger field

• Coach will distribute the balls

Procedure

The coach will pass different types of balls to the player positioned in the square in the middle.

Just before he passes the ball, he will call out the name of a player positioned behind one of the passing goals (bibs).

The player in the center then has 2 touches to control the ball and pass it through the announced passing goal.

The coache's pass and the pass played through the passing goal should both be low-driven and sharp passes to make it more game-realistic.

Addition:

The player behind the passing goal should be ready to receive the ball in an open position, to be able to continue his movement.

Therefore, a good first touch is also crucial for the player behind the passing goal.

Tip

Goal:

• scan the field before receiving the pass to take a decisive touch into the direction of play

Variations:

• this can/ should be played as a competition amongst the players. The player in the center is rewarded a point if he manages to keep the ball in the small square and play a pass through the passing goal.

• numbers can also be used instead of bib colors
