Ball Control with Back to Goal

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players

Setup

Set up a goal, a cone square, and a starting cone as shown. One player stands in the cone square, the others with a ball at the starting cone.

Procedure

The starting player plays a flat pass to the player in the cone square, who has his back to the goal. The player receives the ball while turning and shoots on goal. The shot should be taken within the square. The shooter retrieves the ball and the passer now moves into the square, etc. Variation: Instead of a flat pass, an aerial ball can also be played.

Tip

- Make sure that shooting with both right and left foot is trained. - Pay attention to correct body posture when shooting (upper body over the ball; plant foot approx. 30-40 cm offset to the side of the ball, foot pointing in the shooting direction; arms swing along; the arm closest to the kicking leg follows the leg's backswing motion, the other is brought forward; eyes are on the ball at the moment of the shot). - The turn and ball reception and control should be a fluid movement. Excessive bouncing of the ball or reception deviating from a straight running path should be avoided. - Start a preparatory movement before receiving the ball (sideways or backward, then come toward the passer) - Different shooting techniques (inside-of-the-foot shot, instep shot, curling, etc.) can be practised (possibly on the coach's instruction). - When receiving the ball with the chest, the upper body must be turned toward the goal at the moment of contact, thus guiding the ball in the desired direction. - As soon as the ball leaves the passer's foot, the passer immediately runs into the square expecting the next pass. - 5 cones, 1 full-size goal(s)
