Ball Skills - Football Tennis

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

Set up a rectangle with a net (approx. 1.5 m high) in the middle (alternatively, a 3-metre-wide cone corridor can replace the net). 3 players per side.

Procedure

The serve is played as a volley from the hand or as a drop kick. The ball may generally only bounce once in each half. Each team has a total of three touches (with the third touch, the ball must be played to the other side). After each touch, the player must rotate. Points are awarded after each won/lost rally. The serving team is always the one that won the rally. After each change of serve, the server on the respective team also rotates. A set typically goes to 21. The number of winning sets can be determined by the coach; 2 or 3 winning sets are standard. The set winners must have at least a 2-point lead. This means that at 21:20, play must continue to 22, and so on.nnn

Tip

- The team size can vary between 1 and 4 players. 2 vs. 2 and 3 vs. 3 are most suitable, as the players get enough touches. - The 1 vs. 1 situation can be very intense. The player heavily trains the refinement of technique, coordination, and ball feel. - The number of touches can vary according to the coach's instructions. - Tip: If a player can take the ball directly out of the air, they should do so. Afterward, they can let the ball bounce on the ground and calmly pass it into the other side. - Of course, the player may use all body parts except hands to control the ball. However, it should not turn into a pure heading game; the focus should be on leg technique. - 4 cones or more, 1 football tennis net
