Ball Skills Variation I

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

Two cones are set up opposite each other. One player positions himself at each cone, one of them with a ball.

Procedure

Player A has the ball and plays a flat, accurate pass to player B. At the moment player A goes into the backswing for his pass, B makes a counter-movement and comes toward the pass briefly. The ball reception and control is done with one touch using the outside of the foot. Then player B performs a shot fake and passes back to player A, who does the same. The drill is continued in constant alternation.

Tip

- The passing must be executed accurately. - The pass should be played at high tempo. - Make sure to watch the correct start timing of the player expecting the ball. When the passer goes into the backswing for the pass, the receiver starts the preparatory movement. - Ball reception and control with one touch. - The shot fake is a body feint. Therefore, during this move, make sure the player's swinging motion is maintained until the last moment. Only just before the foot touches the ball does the player initiate the actual fake. He swings the kicking leg over the ball, places the foot directly behind the ball briefly, and then immediately takes the ball with the outside of the foot to the side. If executing this move with the right foot, he swings the leg from right to left over the ball and then takes the ball with the right outside of the foot. - After executing the move, a short sprint follows (approx. 2 metres), then the pass is made from the movement. - Always make sure distances are maintained. This means the players expecting the ball always start at the height of their cone. - Always train ball reception/control with both feet. - 2 cones
