Basic Passing/Ball Reception and Carrying I

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

- Set up 6 cone goals (12 cones needed)
- Players position themselves between the cone goals.
- Have several balls ready

Procedure

The players facing each other pass the ball back and forth using the right (left) inside of the foot.
After the pass, the ball is received with the right (left) inside of the foot and passed back, and so on.

Alternatives:
- Pass with the right (left) inside of the foot, stop the ball with the right (left) inside and pass it back, then run backward around a cone.
- Receive the ball with the right (left) foot, pass with the left (right) foot (tip: receive and carry the ball with one touch so the ball lands in front of the left (right) foot when receiving with the right (left) foot and can be played directly).
- Reduce the distance to 2-3 metres and pass directly while performing skipping movements (goal: 100 touches)
- Alternate between instep kick, inside kick, inside pass, or outside-of-the-foot pass.

Tip

- During ball reception and carrying, the standing foot is often placed too far from the ball, or the player frequently leans backward. The standing foot should be placed 30-40 cm to the side of or level with the ball.
- When passing or receiving the ball, the foot should be slightly raised and swung downward toward the ball.
- Many players receive the ball with the instep or outside of the foot. Receiving and carrying with the inside of the foot, slightly leaning over the ball, is much easier as a first step.
