Building from the Back through the Goalkeeper - Level 2
AgeU6 - U13, U14 - U19
Training SetMain point
Number of Players10-15 players, 16-22+ players
Setup
Two teams of 6 are formed. A goal is placed on the end line with a goalkeeper in it. The players position themselves according to the diagram or as in the previous Level 1.
Procedure
The game starts with a pass from the goalkeeper to any player on the blue team. The opponent of the blue player who receives the goalkeeper's pass immediately leaves the field and goes to the sideline (A1). Now the 6 blue players + goalkeeper play against the 5 red players. The blue team tries, including the goalkeeper, to maintain possession and place the ball behind the halfway line. The red team tries to prevent this and in turn win possession and get a shot on goal. Then the red team plays the ball to the goalkeeper, etc.
Tip
- The goalkeeper starts the build-up and can always be played to. - A numerical advantage is created for the team building from the back. - Both teams should be in constant motion. Players continuously try to make themselves available as passing options for their teammates. - Getting stuck in a tight space should be avoided. Therefore, switching play and passes in behind or back to the goalkeeper should be played regularly. - This game form requires enormous running volume and tactical awareness. - The objective for the defenders is either to win possession or to push the ball carrier into a non-dangerous area to the side and block his passing lane toward the halfway line/teammate through double-teaming or tucking in. The midfielder tries to double-team or block passing lanes. - The outnumbered team tries to apply a high press. - 1 full-size goal(s)
