Building from the Back through the Goalkeeper - Level 3
AgeU6 - U13, U14 - U19
Training SetMain point
Number of Players10-15 players, 16-22+ players
Setup
Two teams of 6 are formed. A goal is placed on the end line with a goalkeeper in it. On the halfway line, three cone goals are set up. The players position themselves according to the diagram or as in the previous Level 2.
Procedure
The game starts with a pass from a blue player to the goalkeeper. In the ensuing play, the goalkeeper must have passed to 3 players of the blue team before the actual game begins. Once the goalkeeper has passed the ball to the third player, that player's opponent leaves the field and goes to the sideline (A1). Now the 6 blue players + goalkeeper play against the 5 red players. The blue team tries, including the goalkeeper, to maintain possession and score a goal on the cone goals at the halfway line. The red team tries to prevent this and in turn win possession and get a shot on goal. Then the red team plays the ball to the goalkeeper, etc. Variations: - 6 vs 6 the entire time (A1 does not leave the field after the third pass) - 4 + goalkeeper against 6 attackers - 6 + goalkeeper against 8 attackers The black arrows show the build-up options. The yellow arrows show three play options for the goalkeeper.
Tip
- The goalkeeper starts the build-up and can always be played to. - A numerical advantage is created for the team building from the back. - Both teams should be in constant motion. Players continuously try to make themselves available as passing options for their teammates. - Getting stuck in a tight space should be avoided. Therefore, switching play and passes in behind or back to the goalkeeper should be played regularly. - This game form requires enormous running volume and tactical awareness. - The blue team tries to dribble through one of the three cone goals. - The objective for the defenders is either to win possession or to push the ball carrier into a non-dangerous area to the side and block his passing lane toward the halfway line/teammate through double-teaming or tucking in. The midfielder tries to double-team or block passing lanes. - The outnumbered team tries to apply a high press. - 1 full-size goal(s)
