The goalkeeper coach and goalkeeper position themselves on the field as shown in the diagram. The goalkeeper stands 5-8 metres in front of the goalkeeper coach. The balls are with the goalkeeper coach. If there are multiple goalkeepers, they rotate after each round.
Procedure
The goalkeeper coach throws the balls to the goalkeeper in various ways. Sometimes to the upper right beside the goalkeeper (1), sometimes at knee height directly (2), sometimes half-high directly at or beside the goalkeeper (3), sometimes to the upper left beside the goalkeeper (4). The goalkeeper must catch the balls with different catching techniques and throw them back to the coach with various one-arm throwing techniques. His arm position varies according to the catching or throwing method: (1) Catching with one hand to the upper right beside the body; one-arm throw back with the right. (2) Catching with one hand in front of the body; one-arm rolling back alternating with right and left. (3) Catching with one hand in front of the body (for balls thrown beside the body, the body must be brought behind the ball); one-arm throw over the head. (4) Catching with one hand to the upper left beside the body; one-arm throw back with the left. In addition to the presented variations, many more exercises can be added to this collection. The ball contact time should decrease over time. Finally, the ball is received with a short hand movement and simultaneously thrown/rolled back (receiving and returning are one fast, fluid movement with one ball contact).
Tip
- The body should always be brought behind the ball, if reaction time permits. - When catching, bring the palms behind or slightly under the ball. - Stand on the balls of the feet in ball-expectation and be ready to react. - Do not allow long wait times between rounds in order to create automatisms through high repetition numbers. - Through constant catching and throwing with one hand, the precision of the catching movement, reaction ability, and fast transition from defensive to offensive action are trained.
