Chaos Dribbling

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

Pitch: Mark out an area of 30 x 20 metres with four cones. On two opposite sides there are 2 mini goals each, on the other two sides one small goal or full-size goal each. Dribbling takes place between the two sides with the mini goals.

Equipment: 4 cones, 4 mini goals, 2 full-size goals, bibs in two colours, plenty of balls.

Players: Two teams. One team lines up on one of the mini goal sides with one ball each and dribbles, the other spreads out next to the two full-size goals and has 4 balls per player.

Procedure

  • All players of the dribbling team set off into the playing area with their ball from the left-hand side and try to score in one of the mini goals on the opposite side.
  • The other team stands next to the full-size goals and tries to shoot the dribblers' balls away.
  • A ball that is hit is out of the game. If a ball that has been shot misses its target and reaches the opposite side, it may be used again.
  • Whether a dribbler hits or misses the mini goal, the dribbler picks up the free ball behind the mini goals and starts the next round towards the other mini goal.
  • After both rounds the dribbling team may take the balls lying in the mini goals and finish on the full-size goals. The other team may prevent this but may only enter the playing area as far as the level of the mini goals.
  • The two teams then swap tasks.

Scoring: The team with the most points wins.

Progression:

  • Make the corridor narrower towards the end so that the players finish earlier.

Note: Drill idea by Eddie Plickat.

Tip

  • Allow only ground balls.
  • When dribbling, keep the ball close to the foot with short, quick steps. The head stays up in order to take in the surroundings and to shield the ball.
  • When shooting at a ball, the standing leg points towards the target and the ankle of the shooting foot is stabilised by pulling up the toes. That ensures accurate firm passes.
