Cognitive Exercise: Action Circle

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players

Setup

  • 1 ball for each player
  • 2 additional balls
  • 2 tennis balls per player

Procedure

  • Exercise 1: Each player has a ball in front of them and alternates (left/right) doing step-overs. Players are given various tasks to solve without interrupting their footwork, such as math problems, visual tasks, etc.
  • Exercise 2: If tennis balls are available, each player takes one ball in each hand. Both balls are simultaneously tossed a few centimeters high and caught with crossed arms. Then, the balls are tossed and caught again without crossing the arms. Repeat the exercise while still performing step-overs over the ball.
  • Exercise 3: Juggle the ball between the feet. While doing this, players pass an additional ball around the circle, catching it and passing it to the next player.
  • Exercise 4: Juggle the ball. The coach stands in the middle of the circle. Numbers are assigned for different exercises (catching, heading, etc.). While players juggle their ball, the coach throws the ball and calls out a number. The player must then perform the corresponding action.

Tip

The goal of the exercises is to make footwork a "secondary" focus and to engage the brain with additional tasks. This helps to recognize game situations more quickly and react accordingly.
