Counter Pressing: 3 Colors Game

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players

Setup

• 2 mini-goals

• 8 cones

Split the field into three zones with the middle zone being the biggest. The two outer zones have the same size.

Divide players into three teams consisting of three players each.

Procedure

The team defending starts the drill by passing the ball to the attacking team.

The two teams combined to one bigger team (e.g. yellow and blue play together) try to keep possession and play a certain number of passes within the two teams.

After completing the specific number of passes, they can go on and score on the mini-goals.

A goal = 1 point for each of the two teams in possession.

The ball can only be passed in the middle zone. Finishing on the mini-goal is also limited to the middle zone.

If the defending team wins the ball, the team that just lost the ball immediately counterpresses.

After having won possession of the ball, the defending team can also shoot on the mini-goals. If they score, they receive 2 points.

If the ball goes out of play, the coach plays another ball into the field and a new team will defend.

Tip

Coaching Points:

• Two defending players press the player in possession of the ball, the third defender blocks passing lanes

• Teams/ players in possession shouldn't take many touches but always create passing angles to receive and pass the ball fast
