Creating Space for the Fullback and Finishing

Setup

  • Position 16 poles according to the diagram

Procedure

The fullback starts the exercise with a pass to the wide midfielder, who moves out of the cover shadow of the pole with an opening movement. He lays off the ball to the defensive midfielder, leaves his position, and moves parallel to the penalty area towards the center. The defensive midfielder plays a pass into space for the overlapping fullback. The fullback receives the ball, passes it low to the cutting central midfielder in the penalty area, who offers himself with a run around the poles and finishes.

Tip

Coaching Points:Fullback:

  • Overlap at top speed
  • Watch for offside
  • Play the cross promptly (do not unnecessarily delay)
  • Deliver the cross with the instep and sufficient spin

Wide Midfielder:

  • Immediately move towards the center after the pass
  • Run diagonally into the penalty area
