Tip
Basic behaviour for crosses from the side: - The goalkeeper positions himself in the centre of the goal, 1-2 steps in front of the goal line, facing the passer. His lateral positioning allows him to quickly move forward toward the near post. He is also in a good position to move toward the 6-yard box line or to the far post. - The goalkeeper must assess with every cross whether he can intercept it or whether staying on the line is appropriate. - If he decides to intercept the cross, he must expect a challenge with the striker. He must go for the ball aggressively and decisively, catching it at the highest point possible. - If the goalkeeper decides to stay on the line and the striker takes a shot, the goal is to hold onto the ball. If this is not possible, it should be parried to the side. - Just before the shooter makes contact with the ball, the goalkeeper makes a small two-footed hop or a short step forward, spreads his arms to the sides, slightly bends his knees, and stands on the balls of his feet. His feet point toward the shooter and are about hip-width apart, the upper body leans slightly forward, and the eyes are fixed on the ball. - 1 full-size goal(s)
