Crosses from the Flank

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

The goalkeeper stands centrally in the goal. The goalkeeper coach (GC) stands with balls approx. 25 m to the side of the goal at the level of the 6-yard line near the sideline.

Procedure

The GC crosses a high ball toward the 6-yard box. The goalkeeper tries to intercept the cross at the highest possible point. Intensity: 8-10 crosses. Then switch sides.

Tip

- The goalkeeper takes off with the leg furthest from the ball and tucks the near leg to his body for protection. - The ball should be caught at the highest point. - The arms must be extended. - Pull the ball to the chest as quickly as possible. - Start on the balls of the feet. - Take short steps. - The goalkeeper stands 1-2 m centrally in front of the goal facing the ball. - His legs are parallel and slightly bent at the knees. The upper body is slightly angled forward, the arms are at the sides and slightly bent at the elbows (the body posture closely resembles that of a cowboy just before drawing his gun from the holster). - To calculate/judge the flight path, the goalkeeper reacts only after the ball has been struck. - If the ball cannot be caught, it is punched away to the side with both fists (or possibly with just one fist). - To generate momentum for a one-armed punch, swing the hand or fist dynamically from back-low to forward-high. - 1 full-size goal(s)
