Crosses from the Flank/End Line and from the Half-Space

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players

Setup

5 players, of which 3 are crossers and 2 are strikers. The goalkeeper is in the goal. The balls are with the crossers. The crossers are approximately 25-30 metres away and the two central attackers are 16 metres from the goal.

Procedure

The crossers deliver crosses into the penalty area from different positions, which the two strikers should finish after a prior crossing run. The goalkeeper tries to either directly intercept the crosses or save the strikers' shots. The different positions of the wide players are: (1) From the sideline. (2) From the half-space. (3) From the end line.

Tip

- The goalkeeper faces the crosser. - He stands centrally, 2-3 m in front of the goal. - He must judge whether he can intercept the balls out of the air before the strikers reach the ball, or whether he stays on the line and waits for the strikers' action. - If he decides to come out, he must try to catch/punch the ball at the highest possible point. - From the centre of the goal, the goalkeeper moves toward the ball and jumps with arms extended upward, catching the ball at the highest point. The takeoff leg is extended, the other leg is bent and pulled toward the body. - 1 full-size goal(s)
