Crossing Competition | Crossing and Finishing drill

  • Age U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Main point, End
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

• 2 big goals
• 6 cones
• all available balls
• 16-20 players

The crossing-game is played on a field twice the size of the penalty area.
The players are divided into 2 teams consisting of 8-10 players each.
2 players from each team occupy the wide areas of the penalty box and will play crosses into the strikers.
The other players will line up to the left and right of their own goal.
The two goalkeepers are in goal. If more than two goalkeepers are available, they can rotate.

Procedure

Players will form pairs within their team.

One pair from each team starts and receives a precise cross from the right side which they will try to put in the back of the net.

Then the same pair receives a second cross but from the player on the left side and try to finish. Now they will aim for the opposite goal.

The balls lie in the wide areas of the field where the crosstakers are positioned.

To increase intensity and give a certain proximity to the game, the goalkeeper can alternatively play a precise (high or flat) diagonal ball to the winger.

He must then control the ball, take two or three quick touches and play a good cross to the approaching strikers in the middle.

Three rounds of three minutes each will be played.

Whoever scores more goals after three minutes, wins the round.

Tip

Variations:

• Headers count twice
• without defenders; to increase intensity, a defender can also intervene

Coaching Points:

• crosses should be sharp, precise, and off the ground
• strikers cross paths to confuse defenders
• positioning of runners, 1st and 2nd post
• timing of the headers
