Defending Outnumbered | 2 vs 3

  • Age U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 10-15 players

Setup

Pitch: Cones mark out the playing area; there is a goal at each end.

Equipment: 2 goals, cones and several balls.

Players: Two teams and two goalkeepers.

Procedure

  • The game is always played 3 vs 2 with a goalkeeper in one half.
  • The players have to stay in their half.
  • If the defence wins the ball, it tries to play the ball quickly to the three attackers.
  • After the finish, free play towards the attack follows.
  • The tasks are changed in blocks after a maximum of five minutes, or continuously for individual players.

Tip

  • The defence closes down the opponent with cover and switches quickly after winning the ball.
  • If the ball is with a wide player, the defender nearest the ball pushes across, the defender furthest from the ball provides cover with a staggered position in depth.
  • If the ball is with the central player, the defenders act on the same line.
  • Watch out for the distance between the defenders.
  • Gain time.
  • Isolate the wide player in a 1 vs 1 and force a finish from a poor angle.
