Defensive throw-in positioning from the right side

  • Training Set Main point

Setup

Training exercise without opponents. The players of the defending blue team are arranged on the field according to their position in the 4-4-2 system, based on zonal defending at set pieces/throw-ins. Positions can be filled with multiple players. A thrower is placed on the right sideline, approximately at the level of the penalty area line. The four players of the back four (A-D) stand in a line at the level of the 6-yard box. In front of them, centrally positioned, are the left midfielder E along with the two central midfielders F and G. The right midfielder H stands centrally at the level of the penalty area line. Together with the four defenders and the three midfielders in front of them, the arrangement resembles the shape of a pyramid. The left striker I stands in the space behind, while J is positioned further forward and slightly more central. Variation: The exercise can also be performed with the players starting from their positions in the 4-4-2 and then taking their throw-in positions. However, this should only happen as a second step, after the players have developed a feel for their respective throw-in positions. Player/position legend: GK = Goalkeeper A = Left back B = Left centre-back C = Right centre-back D = Right back E = Left midfielder F = Left centre-midfielder G = Right centre-midfielder H = Right midfielder I = Left striker J = Right striker
