Depth Jump / High Jump with Ball Control, 1v1, and Passing Combined

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

Per station, set up one box and one hurdle with 1.5-2 metres spacing. 3-6 players line up behind the first box per station, and a target cone gate is set up. A passer stands inside it.

Procedure

The player steps onto the first box, jumps down with both feet and immediately, with the shortest possible ground contact time (one brief contact), jumps over the hurdle. He lands on the ball of his right foot and pushes off explosively forward, sprinting over the finish line. When he pushes off with his right foot, the left foot goes forward into stride position. It is crucial that the ground contact time after this landing is also very short and the player pushes off explosively from the ball of the foot. The player receives the ball played by the passer while running at full speed and starts a speed dribble toward the cone gate. The passer runs toward the ball carrier and a 1v1 situation develops. The challenge may only take place through the cone gate, i.e., there is a spatial restriction. The starting height of the box should be between 30-50 centimetres. The hurdle is a maximum of 20-30 centimetres high.

Tip

- Quick, short movements. - Short ground contact time. - Maintain balance on the balls of the feet. - For the sprint, start in stride position on the balls of the feet. Initially, the upper body is leaning far forward, the centre of gravity is at hip height, eyes look down. After a powerful push-off from the balls of the feet, the upper body gradually straightens, the eyes lift, and stride frequency increases. The arms move actively in alternation with the legs (when the right leg goes forward, the left arm goes forward and vice versa). After the first 3-4 steps on the balls of the feet, the player then rolls over the entire foot (heel to sole to ball of foot), the upper body is upright and steady, stride frequency increases to maximum. - The single-leg jump (also two-leg jump) develops push-off power (increasing maximum and explosive strength with limited push-off time), i.e., acceleration speed. The player jumps forward from the ball of the right foot and lands on the same foot on the ball. Short ground contact with explosive sprint. The left foot moves forward. - Through a powerful two-footed takeoff, the knees are slightly bent. The arms are bent and go into the windup motion. The upper body is upright. The player lands on the balls of the feet. - Ball reception should be done with one touch. - Tight ball control. - When executing the feint, pay attention to proper timing (start the feint at approx. 1-2 m distance from the opponent). Offensive behaviour: - Tight ball control. Accelerate immediately when starting the dribble and dribble at high speed toward the opponent. - Either, aided by the high tempo, simply push the ball past the side of the opponent, or use a feint. Defensive behaviour: - Attack the ball carrier as quickly as possible. - Slow down 2-3 metres beforehand and position yourself offset to the side. - Force the dribbler to the side and try to slow down the attacker's tempo. - Try to turn the shoulder into the opponent. - The goal is to win the ball in the 1v1. - 1 small goal(s), 2 cones, 1 hurdle(s)
