Direct Passing Sequence Warm-Up

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players

Setup

Pitch: Mark out a square of 5 x 5 to 10 x 10 metres with four flat markers; depending on the level it can be made tighter.

Equipment: 4 flat markers, 2 balls.

Players: Three corners of the square are each occupied by one player, one corner stays free. The two players at the diagonally opposite corners each have a ball. A fourth player without a ball stands in the middle of the area.

Procedure

  • The player at the flat marker next to the free corner passes to the player in the middle.
  • The middle player lays the ball off in a one-two to the free corner.
  • The first passer picks the ball up and moves it on to the next corner.
  • The second player with a ball plays a pass to the corner player without a ball.
  • That player moves the ball on to the next free corner with a one-two with the middle player.
  • From there the ball is played back to the first passer.
  • After every one-two the players leave their flat markers.

Note: Drill idea by Eddie Plickat.

Tip

  • Start at a calm tempo and build up gradually to firm, driven passes.
  • The central player should always move one or two steps towards the pass.
  • Before the pass the corner players should move one or two steps away from their flat marker, which simulates the opponent.
  • Communicate clearly with the receiver of the pass, for example by calling out the name before the pass.
