Setup

Set up three goals as shown in the diagram. The two small goals are placed left and right on the midfield line; the full-size goal is centered on the goal line. The goalkeeper goes into the goal. The goalkeeper coach (GC) stands approximately 12 m away with balls.

Procedure

The GC plays a hard drop kick shot into the goalkeeper's catching range. The goalkeeper catches the ball and plays it either via drop kick or hand throw into the right or left goal. Intensity: 20-30 repetitions. Movement/pass/throw sequence: 1 - Drop kick GC + goalkeeper catches 2 - Throw option by the goalkeeper 3 - Drop kick option by the goalkeeper

Tip

- The takeoff is either without or with only one intermediate step. Multiple steps represent too much time loss. The body weight is on the push-off leg during takeoff. The goalkeeper tries to hold the ball firmly. - For the side-arm throw, the arm is stretched backward like a javelin thrower's, and the ball is placed on the open palm. The extended arm is then brought forward under tension, passing close to the ear. The brace step is important here. If the goalkeeper throws with the right arm, the left leg is positioned forward and offset. If throwing with the left, the right leg is forward and offset. The throwing technique can be practised against a rebound wall, and afterward the throwing action can be incorporated into shot-stopping training by requiring a caught ball to be thrown into a goal placed at any distance. - For the drop kick, take the ball in both hands, extend the arms, and drop the ball. At the moment of ground contact, the ball must be struck with the instep. The leg follows through after contact. The ball should not spin. - 2 small goal(s), 1 full-size goal(s)
