Dribbling Competition

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players

Setup

An equal number of players stand at each cone of the large square, each forming a team (4 teams). With unequal group sizes, the rounds should be chosen so that each group has the same number of runs (if necessary, a player from a smaller group must run twice). Each group has one ball.

Procedure

The 4 starting players run simultaneously on the coach's command around the nearest cone and back. There the ball is handed off to the second player. First a practise round, then competition. Round 2: The first player runs through the small square, around the farthest cone, and back. Ball handoff. Round 3: Running path as in round 2, but now the small square (and only there) is the "battle zone." This means that in the small square, each player, while dribbling their ball, can kick the other player's ball away. If the ball is lost, it must be retrieved and the player continues from the same spot.

Tip

- In the competition, each player runs 3 times. - Pay attention to proper ball handoffs: Right foot to right foot / left foot to left foot. - Make sure the ball handoff always takes place at the height of the cone. - Form approximately equally strong groups. - Demand fast dribbling. - Run tightly around the cones. The ball should be no more than 50 centimetres from the foot. - 8 cones
