Dribbling, Feints with 1v1 in Two Squares Variation III

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players

Setup

Set up a large cone square and a smaller cone square placed inside it. The players distribute evenly at the four cones of the large square. The respective starting player has a ball.

Procedure

The four starting players begin simultaneously with a dribble to the next outer cone to the right (from the player's perspective). At the same time, the players waiting at those cones (without the ball) start running at maximum speed toward the ball-carrying player. The ball carrier tries, within the trapezoidal space bounded by the two nearest inner cones and the two nearest outer cones, to beat the attacking player and reach the attacker's starting cone. The attacking player slows down 2-3 metres before the ball carrier and tries to win the ball. Afterward, the players line up at the opposite cone and switch roles.

Tip

- In this drill, the focus is on 1v1 situations in a confined space.n For the ball-carrying player, this means: a) Dribbling at maximum speed b) Choosing the correct running path (centre, since this allows him to beat the opponent on either side) c) Optional use of an appropriate feint at maximum speed d) Maintaining or, if possible, increasing the tempo after winning the challenge to decisively break away from the opponent. For the attacking player, this means: a) Sprint toward the ball carrier immediately after the ball carrier starts b) Slow down at the right moment (2-3m before the opponent) c) Position offset to the side of the opponent and match his tempo in a sideways backward run d) Push the ball carrier toward the sideline e) Start a ball-winning tackle at the right moment (e.g., when the ball has left the player's foot too far) f) Try to win possession rather than just clearing or kicking the ball away. - 8 cones
