Dribbling in the diamond with a focus on fit timing, ball acceptance and ball transport

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players

Setup

Construction of a cone cross according to the graphic. The players are evenly distributed on the four outer cones. Every player has a ball.

Procedure

One player dribbles with one ball to the opposite side. At the yellow cone, he passes the ball into the path of the teammate at the red cone. That player takes the ball with a single ball contact in the opposite direction and does the same with the opposite player. When player A is at the yellow cone at the other side, player D can start.

Tip

- The players have to develop a run and handover timing and keep looking upwards while dribbling. - Demand clean, tight ball guidance (ball is no further than 50 cm from the foot) and demand fast dribbling. - Approx. Start the pass-out movement 1.5 m before the yellow cone. Don't dribble too close to the yellow cone, but two meters to the side of it. - If the passer starts to move, this is the start signal for the player waiting for the ball. - The pass must be played diagonally to the left when played with the right inside and about 2 meters away from the pass recipient. - In this exercise, the focus, accuracy and timing are of paramount importance. The player waiting for the ball must also start at the right moment and dose his pace accordingly. - After accepting the ball, sprint for 2-3m (release from the opponent) which changes into speed dribbling. - As soon as the player takes the ball with them, the next two players start (red / gray - start timing). - The exercise can be easily trained with up to 20 players. - 8 cones
