Dribbling in the Diamond with Focus on Feints

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players

Setup

Set up a cone cross according to the diagram. Players distribute themselves evenly at the four outer cones. Each player has a ball.

Procedure

All four players dribble simultaneously to the cone in the centre. Before the cone, they perform a feint as instructed by the coach (e.g., stepover to the right/left, spin move to the right/left) and dribble to the cone on the right or left (according to the coach's feint instruction). As soon as the first four players have completed their feint, the next four players start immediately, etc.

Tip

- Make sure the players start simultaneously. - Demand clean, close ball control (ball should not be more than 50 cm from the foot) and fast dribbling. - Begin the feint execution approx. 2 m before the cone. - After the feint, a 2-3 m sprint follows (separating from the defender). - As soon as the last of the four players has executed his feint, the next four players start (start timing). - The exercise can easily be practised with up to 20 players simultaneously. - 5 cones
