Dribbling techniques and tricks - dribbling combined with a trick
AgeU6 - U13, U14 - U19
Training SetProgression, Main point
Number of Players1 - 5 players
Setup
Two groups begin opposite each other at two cones. The cones are approx. 25 meters apart. One ball per group.
Procedure
The first players of each group dribble at the same time towards each other. When they are approx. 3-4 meters apart they carry out a trick to out maneuver their opponent and pass (or give the ball) to the opposite group. This sequence repeats itself over and again with different tricks and dummies. Possible tricks are: a.) step over b.) pirouette c.) shot dummy d.) In and outstep e.) backheel* f.) stroking the ball with the sole of the foot/instep g.) dragging the ball back h.) laces + outstep i.) Okocha-Trick * If the coach calls backheel (the players should abruptly change direction and head off in the other direction), the ball is then not passed to the opposing group but given back to the start group.
Tip
2 cones, -The two active players must start at the same time. - The tricks must be timed correctly (not too early and not too late). The correct distance to carry out the trick is approx. 3-4 meters for this exercise (because both players approach each other at speed. If the player with the ball approaches a waiting player the distance should be reduced to 2m). - The tricks must be carried out by both players with the same foot, otherwise the players would collide. This means that the players have to quickly agree which side to dribble with before each exercise begins. - The trick must be correctly carried out and at top speed. After the opponent has been passed, each player should make a short sprint of about 2-3 meters - The subsequent pass should be played hard along the floor - The player waiting for the pass, should move towards the pass after having made a short dummy run away from the ball and should control the ball with his first touch. - Pay attention that the players start at the cones otherwise the distance between the players will become irregular. - It is important that the player uses his upper body to distract his opponent from the trick as opponents usually focus on players
