Drill KW10: Crossing from the flank/goal line and from the half-space

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players

Setup

5 players, of which 3 are crossers and 2 are forwards. A goalkeeper is in the goal. The balls are with the crossers. The crossers are approx. 25-30 metres from goal and the two central attackers 16 metres from goal.

Procedure

The crossers deliver crosses into the penalty area from different positions, which the two forwards try to finish after crossing runs. The goalkeeper tries to either intercept the crosses directly or save the forwards' shots. The different positions of the wide players are: (1) from the sideline (2) from the half-space (3) from the goal line

Tip

- The goalkeeper faces the crosser. - He stands centrally, 2-3 metres in front of the goal. - He must assess each time whether he can catch the ball out of the air before the forwards reach it, or whether he stays on his line and waits for the forwards' action. - If he decides to come out, he must try to catch/punch the ball at the highest possible point. - From the centre of the goal, the goalkeeper moves toward the ball and jumps with arms stretched upward, catching the ball at the highest point. The takeoff leg is extended, the other leg is bent and pulled toward the body. - 1 full-size goal(s)
