Drill KW33: Shooting after passing with follow-up action
AgeU6 - U13, U14 - U19
Training SetMain point
Number of Players6 - 9 players, 10-15 players
Setup
Set up one goal, three poles, and three starting cones as shown in the diagram. Players distribute evenly at the starting cones. The balls are with group A as well as with the coach and the second goalkeeper standing next to the goal.
Procedure
Player A plays a pass to player B, who passes the ball back toward the goal line to player A. Immediately after the pass, players B and C start toward the goal and cross at the moment when player A reaches the ball played by B and crosses it into the penalty area. B and C finish the action with a shot on goal. Player C must then also finish a second ball from the coach or the second goalkeeper. After each round, positions are rotated.
Tip
- The opening pass from A should be played to B's strong foot. - B must time his pass so that A reaches it just before the goal line and can cross directly into the penalty area. - B and C start immediately after B has passed the ball to player A. - Cross at the moment A begins his backswing for the cross. - The finish depends on the type of delivery (ground pass, half-high/high cross). A first-time finish should be attempted in every case. - When shooting on goal, pay attention to body position: upper body over the ball; standing foot approx. 30-40 cm to the side of the ball, foot pointing in the shooting direction; arms swing along; the arm closest to the shooting leg follows the leg's backswing, the other is brought forward; eyes are on the ball at the moment of the shot. - 3 cones, 1 full-size goal(s)
