Drill KW40: Attacking pattern with options I

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

On one end of the field, a goal is set up with a goalkeeper. 8 field players are positioned on the field as shown in the diagram. Two players are placed on the left/right flank 10-15 metres apart from each other. The two forwards take their positions 10 metres apart at the edge of the penalty area. The remaining players line up in pairs behind players B and C. The balls are at the centre circle.

Procedure

Player C starts with a half-diagonal pass to player A (1), who passes the ball on to B (2). B then passes the ball to the right forward J (3), who now has six passing options: 4a) he plays a through ball to I 4b) he plays to the left side to E 4c) he lays it off to B 4d) he lays it back to C 4e) he plays a short pass into the run of H 4f) he passes to the right side to Dn Follow-up actions: 4a + 4e: I and H finish on goal. 4b + 4f: E and D deliver crosses into the penalty area. I and J cross and occupy positions at the near and far posts, B and C run into the central area in front of the penalty area, and H and D occupy the right back area. 4c + 4d: C and B either shoot directly or lay the ball off diagonally into the run of E or D, who deliver crosses into the penalty area.

Tip

- Make sure the rehearsed movement patterns lead to a quick, fluid overall movement. - Continuously demand accuracy and tempo (slow execution will not lead to game-realistic success in the long run). - Players should learn (similar to a game) to observe and apply what they have observed. - The eyes should regularly be lifted from the ball (alternating glances toward the ball and forward). - The diagonal balls should be played as inside-of-the-foot passes and need sharpness and precision. - Player J has a variety of playing options. - This attacking variation greatly develops creativity. - 1 full-size goal(s)
