Drill KW44: Shooting after ball reception/various actions
AgeU6 - U13, U14 - U19
Training SetMain point
Number of Players6 - 9 players, 10-15 players
Setup
Set up two goals facing each other and six cones (see diagram). Players distribute evenly at the four outer starting cones. The balls are with the players in groups A and B.
Procedure
Drill sequence I: A plays a flat pass to A1. A1 dribbles to the middle cone, runs past it on the inside, and shoots on goal. Simultaneously, B passes the ball to B1, who then also dribbles to the middle cone, runs past it on the inside, and shoots on goal. First, players should place the ball with the inside of the foot, curling it into the corners, then shoot with the instep or as an inside-of-the-foot shot. Drill sequence II: Same as I, but now a feint is performed before the middle cone. To practise the sequences with both feet, players switch sides after 5 minutes for all drill variations (A becomes B / A1 becomes B1). Variation I: Each player has a ball. A and B start simultaneously and meet exactly in the middle. Both players hook their left arms together and make a full turn (spin). Then they shoot in their running direction. Afterward, the same sequence for B1 and A1. Variation II: Each player has a ball. Players A and B dribble simultaneously from their cones and after 2-3 metres play a diagonal pass into each other's path so that the other player can shoot at the middle cones. Then A1 and B1 start with the same drill. Variation III: Player A plays a one-two with player A1 waiting at the middle cone. Player A then crosses from the goal line to player A1 who has started into the goal area and seeks to finish. Parallel sequence for B and B1. Variation IV: A passes the ball to player A1 waiting at the middle cone and runs diagonally toward the goal. Player A1 lays the ball off into A's run, follows his own pass briefly, and receives a through ball from A (toward the goal line). Player A1 crosses this ball into the penalty area, where player A finishes. Parallel sequence for B and B1. After each round, players A and A1 as well as B and B1 switch positions.
Tip
Shooting: - Pay attention to proper body position when shooting: upper body over the ball; standing foot approx. 30-40 cm to the side of the ball, foot pointing in the shooting direction; arms swing along; the arm closest to the shooting leg follows the leg's backswing, the other is brought forward; eyes are on the ball at the moment of the shot. - For volley shots, the upper body should be slightly leaning forward and the ball should be struck at a low point (not too high). This gives the ball more power and greater accuracy. - For headers, the contact surface is the forehead. Power is generated from the arching of the upper body (hyperextension). Just before the player strikes the ball, he releases the arch by snapping the head forward and striking the ball in front of the body. The arms are moved backward in a bent position during this movement. Passing: - When passing to the wall player, make sure to play to his strong foot. - Ball reception should be a fluid motion. The ball bouncing too far away or a reception that deviates from the straight running path should be avoided. - When passing into the run, play the ball so that the receiver can ideally start the follow-up action (e.g., cross) directly out of his stride. Feints: - Execute feints approximately 1-2 metres before the middle cone. Then briefly increase speed, finish. Dribbling: - The upper body is slightly leaning forward at the start of the dribble. When stopping andnpulling back the ball, it straightens slightly. - When executing a body feint, the centre of gravity shifts to the right or left through the typical lateral leaning of the upper body. - Do not lean backward. - The arms are bent at the elbow and carried at the sides, following the normal arm swing when running/walking. - Bend the leg when receiving the ball. - The ball is only lightly ("softly") touched. A feel for the ball must be developed. - The eyes should regularly be lifted from the ball (alternating glances toward the ball and forward). - Keep the tempo high. - As many ball touches as possible. - The legs are slightly bent at the knee during execution. - Close ball control (ball should not be more than 50 cm from the foot). Wall player: - The wall player makes a short check-away run as soon as the starting player begins his backswing and then briefly comes toward the ball. - 2 full-size goal(s), 6 cones
