Drop Kick Shots from Various Shooting Positions

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players

Setup

The goalkeeper positions himself in the centre of the goal. The goalkeeper coach (GC) stands centrally, approx. 12 m from the goal. Two additional players/goalkeepers or GCs stand at the same distance but offset to the sides from the goal. The balls are with the GC and the two side-positioned players.

Procedure

The GC and the two additional players take turns shooting drop kicks on goal. The goalkeeper stands in the goal and tries to save the balls. It is important that the goalkeeper adjusts his angle to each shooter by repositioning himself before each shot. Intensity: 6-9 shots, then switch. Three rounds per goalkeeper.

Tip

- Just before the shooter strikes the ball, the goalkeeper makes a small two-footed hop or a short step forward, spreads his arms to the sides, bends slightly at the knees and stands on the balls of his feet. The feet point toward the shooter and are about hip-width apart, the upper body is slightly leaned forward and the eyes are fixed on the ball. - The takeoff occurs either without or with only one intermediate step. Multiple steps cause too great a time loss. The body weight is on the push-off leg at takeoff. - The goalkeeper falls to the side with a swing step. To the right by generating momentum through the right foot and pushing off through the balls of the feet. To the left by generating momentum through the left foot. - For the drop kick, the ball is struck with the instep at the exact moment the ball touches the ground. Take the ball in both hands, extend the arms and drop the ball. At the moment of ground contact, the ball must be struck with the instep. The leg swings through after contact. The ball should not spin. - 1 full-size goal(s)
