The goalkeeper's legs are shoulder-width apart. The ball is held in both hands with arms extended above the head. The arms are then brought backward and the ball is dropped with a slight impulse toward the body. The moment the ball leaves the hands, the goalkeeper quickly bends forward (head down), reaches through the open legs behind and catches the ball before it touches the ground. He then brings the ball back forward through the open legs and repeats the exercise. To start, the ball can be held and dropped with arms extended backward at hip height. For beginners, the ball may bounce once on the ground before being caught.
Tip
- The upper body is bent backward (hollow back position) at the moment of dropping the ball. - The arms are slightly bent. - During the catching motion, the body is bent forward and the back is curved. - The arms are approximately 50 cm apart. - The player stands on the whole foot during the backward motion and goes onto the balls of the feet during the forward motion. For beginner exercises, the arms are extended backward and the legs are bent at the knees (squat position).
