Dropping the ball through the legs from behind

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

Goalkeeper with ball.

Procedure

The goalkeeper stands with his legs shoulder length apart. The ball is taken in both hands and held above the head with stretched out arms. The arms are now moved slightly backwards and the ball dropped. At the moment the ball leaves the hand, the goalkeeper quickly bends forward (head downwards), reaches behind through his open legs and catches the ball before it hits the ground. Finally he brings the ball back through his open legs and repeats the exercise. Initially the ball can be dropped with stretched out arms at hip height. With beginners the ball may be allowed to bounce once of the ground.

Tip

- At the moment the ball is dropped the body is bent backwards.\n- The arms are bent slightly.\n-During the movement to catch the ball, the body is bent forwards and the back is hunched.\n-The arms are approx. 50cm apart.\n-During the backwards movement the player stands on the whole of his feet, and during the forwards movement the player goes off the balls of his feet. \nDuring beginner practices the arms are stretched backwards and the legs bent at the knees (crouching)\n
