Dutch Turn + Short Passing Combination

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point

Setup

Each player has a ball. Either set up a cone square or let players perform the exercise freely on the field.

Procedure

The player dribbles the ball forward, slows down, and pulls the ball back with the right sole. He then moves his foot behind the ball and plays it with the right instep to the left foot. This technique is now performed with the left foot and transitions into the rapid execution of a repeated right/left ball combination using the right and left inside of the foot. He tries to execute this back-and-forth as quickly as possible while regularly looking up from the ball. Looking up can be encouraged by briefly calling out for the player to look at the coach. Technique sequence: 1 - Ball control with right foot 2 - Pull ball back with right sole 3 - Play ball with right instep to left foot 4 - Pull ball back with left sole 5 - Play ball with left instep to right foot 6 - Play ball with right inside to left foot 7 - Play ball with left inside to right foot 8 - Play ball with right inside to left foot 9 - Play ball with left inside to right foot

Tip

Sole technique: - When pulling the ball back, the standing leg (left) is level with the ball. - Bend the leg and do not lean backward. - The upper body is slightly leaning forward at the start and becomes somewhat more upright when stopping and pulling the ball back. Instep technique: - The ankle must be locked open. - Bend the leg. - Touch the ball only very lightly (fine technique). - Upper body leaning forward. - Alternate looking at the ball and looking up. - Do not play with the inside or outside of the foot. Children especially tend to turn the ankle inward and guide the ball with the outer instep. Correct this from the start and ensure a straight foot position. Inside-of-the-foot technique: - Keep the legs bent. - Move on the balls of the feet. - Short ground contact time. - Do not touch the ball with the entire inside of the foot; instead, play it on the side at the centre of the ball. - The upper body is slightly leaning forward. - Do not lean backward. - Arms bent, moving in the opposite running motion. - Alternate looking at the ball and looking up. - Keep the tempo high. - As many ball contacts as possible. - When the ball leaves the left foot, the left leg automatically becomes the standing leg (the centre of gravity shifts from the right to the left leg). When the ball leaves the right leg, the weight shift is reversed. The constant pendulum of the ball from right to left inside creates a continuous shift of the centre of gravity.
