Exercise CW13: Toss, Ball Control + Pass

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

The goalkeeper stands 2-3 m in front of his goal. Approximately 6 m to the side stands the goalkeeper coach (GC) with the balls. On the halfway line, on the left and right wings, two small goals are set up.

Procedure

The GC throws a ball to the goalkeeper at chest height. The goalkeeper must process the ball as quickly as possible (catch it or control it with the chest) and play it into either the left or right goal on the half-space positions. It is important that he alternates between using his left and right foot. Intensity: 30 repetitions. Options: A - Chest control + inside kick with the left foot B - Catch the ball with both hands + inside kick with the right foot

Tip

- Continuously demand accuracy and tempo (slow execution will not lead to game-realistic success in the long run). - The standing foot should be placed 30-40 cm to the side of or level with the ball. - When receiving with the chest, turn in the direction the ball will be passed. - When catching the ball, quickly turn to the side the ball will be played to. - Instep kick (full instep): Toes point down, the ankle is locked, and the upper body leans slightly over the ball. The contact surface is the back part of the top of the foot. To achieve greater distance, a slight backward lean is allowed. - Inside kick: The ball is played partly with the inside and partly with the instep. The standing leg is positioned beside the ball, and the upper body tilts at an angle. The toes point down, similar to the instep kick foot position. - 1 full-size goal(s), 2 small goal(s)
