Exercise CW21: 5 vs. 3 + Wide Strikers

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 10-15 players

Setup

Set up a goal on the goal line with a goalkeeper inside. Two teams of 5 (red and blue) are formed. The 5 red players go into the centre circle along with 3 blue players. One of the two remaining blue players stands at the halfway line on the left sideline; the other stands at the halfway line on the right sideline.

Procedure

In the centre circle, the red team plays 5 vs. 3 against the blue team. The red players have 2 touches; the blue players try to win the ball. When the blue players win the ball, they must immediately pass toward the goal into the run of one of the two blue wide strikers. As soon as the pass is made, the players from the centre circle join the attack. The 3 blue players become attackers; the red team becomes defenders. The second wide player also joins the attack, so it becomes 5 vs. 5. After a set time, the red and blue teams switch positions.

Tip

- The three underload players in the centre circle become attackers after winning the ball. - The pass should be played sharply toward the corner of the 18-yard box. - The wide players must stay focused and find the fastest route to goal. - The players in possession in the centre circle should control the ball and always have a central passing option. After losing the ball, they must immediately sprint back to goal and try to stop the attack. - 1 full-size goal(s)
