Use cones to mark out a field. On both end lines, set up a goal with a goalkeeper in each. 10 field players take positions on the field as shown in the diagram. To mark the halfway line, place one cone at each sideline.
Procedure
Two field players stand next to each goalpost, and two more are in the centre of the field. Player J has the ball with his back to the goal and passes to player I, who runs into the ball at top speed and starts dribbling. Defender A attacks J. After the opening pass, the second defender B sprints from the goal line toward player I and attacks him. This creates a 2 vs. 2 game situation. If the defensive team wins the ball, they are allowed to attack the opposite goal.
Tip
- The second attacking and defending player starts with the passer's kicking motion. - The attacker tries to use his sprint speed advantage. - The defenders try to press the attacker as early as possible so he cannot build speed, and if possible, position their body with the shoulder forward between themselves and the attacker. - The defender tries to catch up to the attacker, or block the passing lane, or push him to the side. - The defender tries to win the duel with possession of the ball. - The defender should close off the path to goal. Stand slightly offset so the attacker must take the route farther from goal. - 6 cones, 2 full-size goal(s)
