Exercise CW38: Opponent-Beating Passing I

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

Using eight cones, set up three rectangles side by side, with each zone being the same size. The cones form the imaginary dividing lines between the respective fields.

Procedure

The two blue players pass the ball to each other in their corridor for as long as they like. The goal is to pass the ball past the red player in the middle field to the blue teammate on the other side. If successful, the blue passer immediately follows his pass into the other field. There, the same game starts over. The red player tries to intercept the passes with clever spatial positioning, but is not allowed to enter the opponents' corridor. Motivation help for the red player: The player in the middle sector is rotated after a set time. If the red player intercepts more passes than the blue players can complete to their teammate, he wins. Alternative: Larger cones can be used for the outer markings for better visibility.

Tip

It is recommended that players play the passes with both feet. Initially, passes should be played flat. Advanced players can also chip the ball over the opponent. Observe the red player as well as the teammate in the opposite field. An accurate passing game is of enormous importance for a successful football match. Therefore, passing must be practised repeatedly. It should not be forgotten that exercises must be corrected and demonstrated correctly when performed incorrectly. Additional important points: - The standing foot should be placed 30-40 cm to the side of or level with the ball. - For the inside-of-the-foot pass, the toes point upward, the ankle is firmly locked, and the upper body leans slightly forward over the ball. - Stand on the balls of the feet, slightly lift the kicking foot, and strike the ball in the centre. Bring the body over the ball and do not lean backward (ball reception and carrying follows the same technique). - Follow through with the leg after striking the ball. - Watch the arms! When passing with the right inside, the left arm goes to the right hip; when passing with the left inside, the right arm goes to the left hip! - For the instep pass, the ankle is extended, toes point to the ground, and the upper body leans slightly over the ball. - When playing the ball with the outside of the foot, a slight backward lean is acceptable. - For the inside kick, move laterally offset to the ball; the body tilts at an angle. - 8 cones
