Exercise CW43: Ball Handling Techniques and Feints - Dribbling and Feints in Two Rows of 5

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

On both sides of the cone square, players line up in 2 groups one behind the other. The distance between players is approximately 5 metres each. Both starting players (see diagram) have a ball and stand facing the remaining players. At the two diagonally opposite starting cones, one additional ball is placed.

Procedure

The starting player weaves in slalom around the players in his row. While dribbling, he performs a different (or always the same) feint before each player and beats him. The obstacle players slowly move toward him. The player closest to the starting cone picks up the ball placed there as soon as he reaches the starting cone and begins his turn, beating the players with different feints. Once the ball-carrying player has passed all players, he passes the ball to the side to the starting player of the other group and lines up at the back of his own group. This sequence continues throughout.

Tip

- This exercise only works if the players in both groups maintain an identical running tempo. They must observe each other and verbally give the ball-carrying player a tempo target. - The distances between players must remain equal so the ball-carrying player has the opportunity to execute his feint cleanly. - The ball-carrying player is forced to constantly look up due to the oncoming players. The oncoming players must not move too fast, otherwise the spacing will be off. - Tight and clean ball control is essential for the exercise to work. - The dribbler must constantly watch his ball and the opponent. - The final pass must be accurate to the other side, and the opposing player must be alerted to the incoming pass. - 4 cones
