Exercise of the Week 24: Central Attacks with Options Level 1 Variants I-III
AgeU6 - U13, U14 - U19
Training SetMain point
Setup
Use cones to set up a passing station according to the respective variant. Two players go to cone I, two players to cone II, and one player to cone IV. Cone III remains unoccupied. The balls are at starting cone I.
Procedure
Variant 1: Player B passes to player C and follows his pass to cone II. C passes toward cone III. Simultaneously with C's kicking motion, player D starts toward the ball and passes it — ideally directly from the run — on to player E. D follows his pass and lines up at cone IV; player E does a speed dribble to cone I. This sequence then repeats continuously. The second round is opened by a pass from player A to B, who passes on toward cone III, where player C passes it on to player D. Variant 2: Player B plays a one-two with player D, then passes to C and follows his pass to cone II. C passes to D and stands next to cone II. Player D starts toward the ball and passes it — ideally directly from the run — on to player E. D follows his pass and lines up at cone IV; player E does a speed dribble to cone I. This sequence then repeats continuously. The second round is opened by a pass from player A. Variant 3: Player B plays a long pass into player D's run and runs to cone II. D then passes to cone III into player C's run and positions himself at cone II. C passes to E, who passes — ideally directly from the run — on to player E. C follows his pass and lines up at cone IV; player E does a speed dribble to cone I. This sequence then repeats continuously. The second round is opened by a pass from player A.
Tip
- Make sure the practised movement patterns lead to a fast, fluid overall movement. - Continuously demand accuracy and tempo (slow execution will not lead to game-realistic success in the long run). - Players should learn to observe (similar to a real game) and apply what they observe. - Continuously correct mistakes to prevent the development of incorrect habits. - The gaze should regularly be lifted from the ball (alternating between looking at the ball and looking forward). - The player expecting the pass makes a short counter-movement simultaneously with the passer's kicking motion, or runs toward the passer and receives the pass while moving forward (1 touch) or passes directly. - The pass should be played into the running path of the player expecting the ball. - The passer must observe the running path of the player expecting the ball. - The lead-up movement of the pass receiver begins with the passer's kicking motion. - This passing form requires a high degree of concentration and tactical understanding, as well as communication among the players. - Pass sharpness and accuracy are crucial for a successful flow. - 12 cones
