Feinting with Opponent Pressure

  • Age U6 - U13
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

Pitch: Mark out an area of 5 x 10 metres with cones, two further cones on the long sides mark the halfway line of the area. On the two 5-metre sides there are 2 mini goals each.

Equipment: 6 cones, 4 mini goals, bibs in two colours, 1 ball per player.

Players: The players spread out with balls in the middle between the two mini goals of their side and wear bibs in two different colours, one colour per side. The coach stands next to the playing area.

Procedure

  • The two players at the front stand ready with a ball between their goals.
  • The coach starts the round by naming the colour of one of the two bibs. Alternatively the name of a player can be called.
  • The player named sets off into the playing area with the ball, tries to get over the halfway line and to score.
  • The other player sets off into the playing area without a ball and tries to prevent the goal.
  • If the defender wins the ball, that player may try to score through one of the opposition goals.
  • Afterwards both players join the queue on the other side.

Note: Drill idea by Eddie Plickat.

Tip

  • Time limits increase the pressure, make the sequence quicker and reduce standing around.
  • Do not correct every faulty feint, but allow the children to gain their own experience.
