First-Time Passes in Competition

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

Pitch: For each team set up 2 flat markers about 15 metres apart facing each other. The two pairs of flat markers likewise stand side by side about 15 metres apart.

Equipment: 4 flat markers, 1 ball per team as well as spare balls about 10 metres next to the teams.

Players: Two teams; the players spread out behind the two flat markers of their team.

Procedure

  • The two teams compete against each other in a competition.
  • The first player with the ball plays a firm pass to the team-mate at the opposite flat marker and then runs across to join the back of the queue there.
  • The receiver comes 2 to 3 steps towards the ball and plays it back first time to the opposite side, where the next player is waiting.

Scoring: The round ends as soon as the last player of a team has played the fifth pass. That team wins the round.

Simplification:

  • Allow 2 touches if necessary.

Note: Drill idea by Eddie Plickat.

Tip

  • Firm passes succeed with a stable ankle; for this the toes of the passing foot are pulled up towards the shin and the passing leg swings through.
  • The ball should be struck in the centre with the inside of the foot.
  • The standing foot points towards the receiver.
