First Touch and Opening Up

  • Age U6 - U13
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players

Setup

• 6 cones; 4 red and 2 yellow cones

Set up a rectanglural field with the red cones marking the field.

Position a yellow cone on the baseline of the field and the other yellow cone in the center.

Players should position themselves according to the graphic.

Procedure

This drill involves a simple passing pattern to train the first and second touch.

Player A passes the ball to player B1.

Before receiving the ball, player B1 scans the field and knows that his pass should go to player C1.

After receiving the ball from B1. player C1 dribbles the ball back to the staring point.

The same procedure is done on the other half of the field.

Player A passes the ball to player B2, who then passes it to player C2.

Tip

Coaching Points:

• Passing tempo and precision are key

• Before receiving the ball in the middle of the field, players B1 and B2 have to constantly scan what happens behind them.

• Player A's pass should be played into the left foot of player B1, so that he can take his first touch into the direction of his pass
