Formation 1-4-4-2 with diamond as base/defensive variant

The following shows the placement of ten field players and one goalkeeper on the field. The players are positioned according to their roles in four lines (goalkeeper/defence/midfield/attack).

The 4-4-2 formation with diamond corresponds to the base formation in defence and attack staggering. Only in midfield is play not 'in a line' but rather in the namesake diamond formation with one player in the central defensive position, two players in the half-spaces, and one central attacking player behind the two strikers. The first line is the goalkeeper. The second line formation is the back four, the third the central defensive midfielder, the fourth the two midfielders in the half-spaces, the fifth the attacking central midfielder, and the sixth line the striker pair. When the team is in possession, the goalkeeper moves between the goal and the centre of their own half, maintaining a distance of approximately 20 metres to the defensive line, always available as a sort of sweeper. Between the individual player lines there is a distance of 8-12 metres in length to the next line and 7-12 metres to the nearest teammate in width.
