GFA GK - Dealing with Ball Over Defence M3 + WP

Setup

7m x 10m grids

2 bibs (1 set different color)

Set of balls

Procedure

Goalkeeper will be in a good starting position in relation to the ball from the grid on the left as illustrated.

To initiate the start, P1 will pass the ball to the defender, who will play the ball back first tiime back to P1. P1 will then play the ball either to the wide area or inside as shown in the illustration depending on the defenders approach as the defender applies pressure.

 

P2 will then look to penetrate towards the goal with the ball or play an early cross towards P1 who will be making an inside run within the second six (6) yard box.

The GK must get in a good set position in relation to the ball, to safely handle the ball when the shot or cross is delivered. The GK must continue to communicate with the defender until the ball is safely saved or ball is out of play.

 

 

Tip

Player Task

Can you get in a good position in relation to the ball.

Can you effectiviely communicate with your defender to deny the ball from being played inside.

As the ball is played in and behind the defence can you win the ball.

If you can't win the ball can you defend the space between the goal and defender.
