Give-and-Go at Four Stations

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

Set up a diamond/cross with four cones. Three players stand at each large cone, and one player stands at each small cone.

Procedure

The blue player opens with a short pass to the stationary wall passer, who plays a direct one-touch return. Then, after the ball leaves the wall passer's foot, the passer must come toward the ball and play a direct pass straight ahead to the next cone. There, the red teammate plays a direct give-and-go with the stationary wall passer and then passes straight ahead to the blue teammate, etc.

Alternative:

- After the first pass, the returned ball is controlled with one to two touches and then passed on.

- Direct passing with two balls simultaneously.

Tip

- The exercise should first be started slowly and with one ball.

- The passer runs toward the wall passer.

- Most of the time, the passers run faster than they pass. This must be avoided.

- Lack of pass sharpness and accuracy leads to interruptions.

- This exercise demands a high level of concentration.

- When receiving and controlling the ball, the plant foot is too far from the ball or the player often leans backward.

- When passing or controlling the ball, the foot should be slightly raised and swung downward toward the ball.

- Many players control the ball with the instep or the outside of the foot. Receiving and controlling the ball with the inside of the foot, slightly leaning over the ball, is easier as a first step.

- The passer must play the pass half-diagonally to the correct foot of the ball-expecting player for receiving or controlling the ball.
