Indoor Training: Cone Course (Cone Jumping)

  • Age U6 - U13
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players

Setup

Pitch: Set up two parallel lanes. In each lane one cone marks the starting position, followed by 7 cones of different colours one behind the other approximately 1.5 metres apart, and a turning marker at the end of the lane.

Equipment: 18 cones in different colours, of which 2 are flag poles or eye-catching markers for the turning points.

Players: Two teams, assigned to the two lanes.

Procedure

  • The first player in each lane jumps over the cones with two-footed jumps, runs to the turning marker, runs back in a straight line and tags the next team-mate.

Scoring: Play as a team competition: which team jumps over the cones the quickest?

Variations:

  • In the following rounds, run through the course in a slalom.
  • Only jump over every second cone with a two-footed jump.
  • Jump with the right leg only.
  • Jump with the left leg only.
  • Set a fixed jumping task for each cone colour, for example yellow for the two-footed jump and blue for the right leg.
  • Run through the course with the ball in the hands.
  • Dribble through the cones with different dribbling tasks.

Note: Drill idea by Max Schönijahn.

Tip

  • Look for correct execution.
  • Encourage the players again and again.
  • During the dribbling, look for the use of both feet.
