Indoor Training: Dribbling Around the Centre Circle

  • Age U6 - U13
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players

Setup

Pitch: Play takes place around the centre circle.

Equipment: 1 ball per player.

Players: The players position themselves with a ball around the centre circle. The coach stands in the middle of the circle and gives the commands.

Procedure

  • On the coach's command the players start and dribble anticlockwise around the circle.
  • On further commands they carry out different dribbling formats, for example dribbling only with the stronger or only with the weaker foot, dragging the ball sideways with the sole, dragging the ball backwards with the sole, or stopping their own ball with the sole and dribbling on with the ball of the player in front.
  • On a command the direction is changed and the players dribble clockwise.

Variations:

  • On a command the players leave the ball lying and run on without a ball, carrying out various running technique drills.
  • The players bounce the ball.
  • On a command the players dribble inwards to the centre circle, stop the ball and dribble back again.

Note: Drill idea by Max Schönijahn.

Tip

  • The coach sets the tasks with different signals, for example two claps for the change of direction and a whistle for dribbling into the middle.
  • As a progression the coach can work with colours or animal names, for example red for the change of direction or elephant for dribbling into the middle.
  • Watch for close ball control.
  • The players should keep the head up while dribbling.
